ADHD Tutor Wanted: Maths and English Specialist for one 6-year-old girl

We are currently working with a family who are seeking a tutor with experience supporting children with ADHD.

Child: 6-year-old girl

School Year: Year 1

Pay: £40 - £50 per hour

Session: One session per week, in person

Days: Monday’s or Thursday’s

Time: 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm

Location: Wembley, Brent, North West London

Required Documents

Our nanny and educational agency are seeking a self-employed, registered tutor to provide one weekly tutoring session. The ideal candidate will have:

• Specialisation in Maths and English

• UK teaching or tutoring qualifications

• An Enhanced DBS check

• Valid UK ID, for example a UK passport

• Excellent references and a proven track record

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience

Parent Expectations and Teaching Approach

As the child has ADHD and finds it challenging to remain seated and maintain focus, the family is seeking a tutor who can clearly demonstrate how they would adapt their teaching approach.

During interview, tutors should be prepared to explain:

• How they would structure a 1-hour session for a child who struggles with attention and remaining seated

• Strategies for teaching reading to a child with limited focus

• Practical methods for teaching addition and subtraction when number retention is inconsistent

• How they would respond if the child refuses to engage or becomes upset

• Whether they would set homework between sessions and what this would look like

The successful tutor must be able to demonstrate patience, creativity, flexibility and a strong understanding of ADHD friendly teaching strategies. Experience using multi sensory learning, movement based breaks, visual aids and positive reinforcement is highly desirable.
